Tackling the Threat of Respiratory Epidemics; from research discoveries to medical countermeasures
Respiratory infections remain among the most persistent and severe challenges to global public health. To mitigate the severe toll of new or recurrent epidemics, it is key that scientific discoveries are translated into advanced and accessible medical countermeasures.

This lecture, featuring two internationally recognized leaders in respiratory virus research, will explore how cutting-edge research is transforming vaccines, diagnostics, and therapeutics to improve the tools we have available against current and future respiratory virus outbreaks:

    • Florian Krammer (Medical University of Vienna & Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai) will present his work on the development of broadly protective influenza virus vaccines, and the challenges and considerations that pave the road to intranasal vaccines progress.
    • Isabella Eckerle (Geneva Centre for Emerging Viral Disease, University of Geneva) will highlight recent advancements from her lab on the role of natural mucosal immunity to a broad range of viral infections, as well as how these insights can be translated into innovative diagnostic tools.
