    Copenhagen Bioscience Lectures

The Copenhagen Bioscience Lectures are a series of open lectures for all researchers and other interested in and around the Copenhagen area. Every 4 weeks, on a Thursday evening, you are invited for lectures on themes with a general interest for the Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers and bioscience researchers in general. Often there will be a cross-disciplinary focus. The lecture on 12 October 2017 features the Genome Research Consortium and their newly published results on the Danish reference genome project. Speakers will be Søren Brunak and Jose MG Izarzugaza.

    Speakers

Professor Søren Brunak Søren Brunak is professor and Programme Director at the Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research. He is a leading pioneer in the biomedical sciences through invention and introduction of new computational strategies for analysis of biological data for use in molecular biology, medicine and biotechnology. Søren Brunak has amongst other things published close to 300 papers in international peer reviewed scientific journals and co-authored four books. He has been involved in the development of the national strategy for Personalized Medicine as part of the reference group and PI in the consortium which recently published the Danish reference genome paper in Nature.
Jose MG Izarzugaza Jose MG Izarzugaza is associate professor and group leader of the Intergrative Systems Biology group at the Technical University of Denmark. His research spans different aspects of the genomics and systems biology of complex human disease. Jose MG Izarzugaza is an active member in several translational precision medicine initiatives, as elucidated from his involvement in the assembly of the Danish reference genome and in the International Cancer Genome Consortium. Jose is author of 26 peer-reviewed publications, reviewer in numerous top-tier journals and conferences, and academic editor of BMC Bioinformatics, PloS One and PeerJ.

    Søren Brunak

Søren Brunak, Ph.D., is professor of Disease Systems Biology at the University of Copenhagen, Medical Informatics officer at Rigshospitalet, Capital Region of Denmark, as well as professor of Bioinformatics at the Technical University of Denmark. Prof. Brunak was the founding Director of the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis at DTU, which was formed in 1993 as a multi-disciplinary research group of molecular biologists, biochemists, medical doctors, physicists, and computer scientists. Søren Brunak has been highly active within biological data integration, where machine learning techniques often have been used to integrate predicted or experimentally established functional genome, metagenome and proteome annotation. His current research does combine molecular level systems biology and healthcare sector data such as electronic patient records and biobank questionnaires. The aim is to group and stratify patients not only from their genotype, but also phenotypically based on the clinical descriptions in the medical records. One of the key elements driving the approaches is the “disease trajectory” concept, where phenotypes and their complications are analysed in a life-long perspective rather than as individual diagnoses.

    FAQ

I would like to know about upcoming Copenhagen Bioscience Lectures – where can I find information?

You are very welcome to join the ‘Novo Nordisk Foundation Research Centers’ Linkedin group. There you will find information about upcoming lectures, and much more. Also, you may want to sign up for the weekly announcement with events and deadlines, sent out by the group manager.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

We can reimburse a taxi from and to Panum or DTU building 220, if you are at least 3 people in a taxi. This is how it works: you arrange yourself for a taxi from Blegdamsvej or from Kemitorvet, find at least 2 other people to share and take the taxi with, at arrival at Tuborg Havnevej 19 you ask Sophie or Gitte to come and pay for the taxi (they’ll check departure address and number of persons in the taxi), as well as to order your taxi back.

You can park for free in front or at the side of Tuborg Havnevej 19. If that is full, there is 3 hours free parking in the parking to the Waterfront shopping mall at the end of the road.

Public transport by train to Hellerup station, and/or bus (1A, 21, 166), nearest by bus stop is Tuborg Boulevard.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

    Contact Sophie Labrosse at sfeb@novo.dk
