Copenhagen Bioscience Snapshot - Barbara Cannon and Elad Noor
The Copenhagen Bioscience Snapshots seminars are a series of events organized by PhD students of Copenhagen Bioscience PhD program, that target to a broad audience of scientists. This year we are hosting Dr. Barbara Cannon from Wenner-Gren Institute, Stockholm, Sweden together with Elad Noor from ETH, Zurich, Switzerland who will give a talk on “How to make mice more human” and “How thermodynamics shapes metabolic pathway design”, respectively. The event will end with networking and Nordic Tapas. Dr. Barbara Cannon is a Professor of physiology at the WennerGren Institute at Stockholm University in Sweden. Her research focuses on brown adipose tissue, the main heat-producing organ in mammals. Barbara Cannon’s group has extensive experience in studying the mechanisms of mitochondrial uncoupling in brown fat with the aim to understand mitochondrial energy expenditure as well as to influence metabolic disorders by modifying energy utilization in animal models. Dr. Elad Noor is a post-doctoral researcher at ETH Zurich (Uwe Sauer laboratory), studying interface between metabolism and thermodynamics using systems and computational biology. He is an author of widely used tools such as eQuillibrator. His research interests include learning how basic physical laws shape natural biological phenomena and how to better design synthetic pathways.
