To make it easy for you, you do not have to prepare anything, but please sign up no later than March 29, 2019. And if you sign up, please show up! The theme for this meeting is ‘Obesity’.

    Abstract

Obesity both in childhood (and among adults) increases worldwide. It is widely accepted that this is due to the obesogenic surroundings. Despite this, strategies to prevent obesity have mainly focused on the responsibility of the individual and their family including health information and counselling on physical activity and healthy food. This strategy of course has helped some people, but it can be concluded that it has had no effect on the population level.
During the last years the strategic focus has turned towards the possibilities of changing the surroundings into being less obesogenic. This is a very complex strategy, where vested interests of huge companies (e.g. “Big sugar”, “Big soda”) must be considered. In this talk I will go through the history that made these compagnies powerful players in the obesogenic epidemic, which methods they use to secure their vested interest and how complex intervention strategies could be the way forward to change the development.
