Natural Products - Discovery, Biosynthesis and Application

A large fraction of current pharmaceuticals are either natural products or derived from natural products. However, it is believed possible to identify many more new bioactive molecules in nature and use these as pharmaceuticals, and with recent advances in genomics and genome-editing it has become possible to identify new biosynthetic gene clusters and express these in heterologous hosts. This meeting will cover all the recent advances in discovery of new natural products, elucidation of their biosynthetic pathways, activation of latent pathways or expression of pathways in heterologous hosts, and optimization of production yields. Throughout the meeting there will be given examples of how new natural products can find applications as antibiotics, anti-cancer drugs, analgesics or other pharmaceuticals. The meeting is targeted towards anyone interested in research related to natural producs discovery and production.
